Frankton-Lapel Community Schools

  • Frankton Elementary School student Jakob Winningham led the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • The Board approved the minutes from the November 10, 2016 school board meeting as presented.
  • The Board acknowledged Frankton Elementary School, which provided the information on the bulletin board for November.
  • Lapel High School English teacher Jerry Kemerly and senior students Mackenzi Crosley, Riley Gill, Jon Ross Richardson, and Abby Shaw reported on their recent trip to London and Italy.  The Board approved for Lapel High School students to take the trip to Europe on October 29-November 7, 2017.
  • The Board held a hearing to allow public input on a proposed additional appropriation of $1,000,000.00 for the General Fund.  No one spoke at the public hearing.  The Board approved a resolution for the additional appropriation.
  • Superintendent Bobby Fields and Assistant Superintendent Sterling Boles reported the ISTEP+ results to the Board.
  • Mr. Fields reported on the health insurance claims for November 2016.
  • The Board approved a tentative date for the Academic Hall of Fame Banquet for the Class of 2017 of Monday, March 6, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at the Madison Park Church of God.  The banquet recognizes all members of the Class of 2016 with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • The Board approved a $3,000,000 line of credit from First Merchants Bank, if needed, to offset the December property tax payment if the entire payment is not received by the end of December. 
  • The Board approved the following schedule for the regular board meetings in 2017:
    • January 12, February 9, March 9, April 20, May 11, June 8, July 13, August 10, September 14, October 12, November 9, and December 14. 
    • All of the above dates are the second Thursday of the month except for April 20 (3rd Thursday due to Spring Break).
  • The Board approved to give gift cards to bus drivers for perfect attendance for the 2015-16 school year. 
  • The Board approved the following fund raising activities:

    • Lapel High School

  • The Board approved a blanket approval for all cash gifts and donations for all schools per a requirement by the State Board of Accounts that cash gifts and donations be approved by the Board before the money is deposited in the school bank accounts.  The Board will still approve each gift and donation separately as has been done in the past. 
  • The Board approved the following gifts and donations:
    • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School
      • $1,996.00 from Kevin Cline to purchase classroom tables and chairs  
    • Lapel Elementary School
      • $270.00 for the Robotics Club as follows: $250.00 from Nestle, $20.00 from Susan Stern Corporation
      • $5,300.00 from the Community Hospital Anderson Foundation for healthcare related needs in the schools

  • The Board approved the 2017 insurance proposal as presented by USI Insurance Services-Pendleton.
  • The Board approved for notification of the 2017 school board meetings to any newspaper requesting the information. 
  • The Board approved the following out-of-state field trip:
    • Members of the Lapel High School wrestling team to the Defiance Tri-State Border Wars Tournament in Defiance, Ohio on December 29 & 30, 2016
  • The Board approved the payment of 2016 bills and transfers of appropriations.
  • The Board approved a new School Wellness Policy.
  • The Board approved the following transfer tuition:
    • Frankton Elementary School
      • Micha Burton – Grade 1
  • The Board approved a contract with Aspire to provide services to Frankton and Lapel Elementary Schools, subject to revisions to the contract as suggested by Corporation Attorney Mike Lacey.
  • The Board approved the following recommendations:
