Lapel Middle School 8th grade students Elizabeth Manning and Thomas Manning led the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Board approved the minutes from the September 14, 2017 school board meeting as presented.
The Board acknowledged Lapel Middle School which provided the information on the board room bulletin board for October.
The Board approved the 2018 budgets and plans as follows: General Fund Budget, Debt Service Budget, Capital Projects Plan & Budget, Transportation Operating Budget, and Transportation Bus Replacement Plan & Budget.
Assistant Superintendent Sterling Boles reported on the letter grades given to the schools and corporation by the Indiana Department of Education as follows:

The Board discussed getting an appraisal of the property outside of Frankton that the school corporation inherited and the possible sale of the property.
Mr. Boles reported on the official ADM count taken on Friday, September 15, 2017.
Mr. Boles reported on the health insurance claims for September 2017.
Mr. Boles reported on the parent-teacher conferences to be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 and Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 3:00-6:30 p.m., with the students being released 30 minutes early on those days.
Mr. Boles reported to the Board on the state tuition support figures for 2017-18.
A tentative agreement was negotiated with the Frankton-Lapel Education Association on the Master Contract for 2017-18. The agreement includes a 2.037% increase in pay for teachers and a 2% increase for administrators and all other employees. The Board approved the tentative agreement.
The Board approved to change from a valedictorian and salutatorian honor system to a Latin Honor system which would recognize a certain percentage of students as Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Laude. This change would begin with the graduating class of 2021.
