The Board approved the minutes for the April 20, 2006 school board meeting as presented.
The Board acknowledged Lapel Jr.-Sr. High School which provided the information on the bulletin board for May.
Superintendent Ned Speicher updated the Board on the construction projects.
Lapel Jr.-Sr. High School show choir director Jeannine Terhune and choir members Hannah Brown and Katrina Owen reported on their recent show choir tour.
Lapel Jr.-Sr. High School 8th grade class sponsor Bill Morton and students, Jessie Chelli, Sam Faust, Taylor Young, and Katie Rice reported on the 8th grade class trip to Washington, D.C.
Mr. Speicher reported on the recent ruling by the Supreme Court of Indiana that affects the school corporation's ability to charge fees for full-day kindergarten and driver's education.
Mr. Speicher reported on the summer school funding for 2006.
Mr. Speicher reported on the 2006-07 Title I grant.
Mr. Speicher reported on the excess levy the school corporation received from the State of Indiana.
Mr. Speicher reported on the school corporation budget for the first quarter of 2006.

The Board approved the following gifts:

$950.00 for the Emma Copeland Reading Scholarship Fund as follows: $550 from Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School, and $400 from Barbara McPhearson
$603.94 from Surbaugh & Son to cover the cost of a workshop attended by physics teacher Matt Jung

$740.00 for the Trip to England fund as follows: $500 from an anonymous donor, $220 from five anonymous donors, $20 from Mr. & Mrs. Norman Bracken
$100.00 from an anonymous donor for the show choir
$772.85 from Target from the Take Charge of Education School Fundraising Program
$30.00 for the athletic department in memory of Dean Presser from his Lapel High School classmates
The Board approved the following out-of-state field trips:
The Lapel Jr.-Sr. High School Band and Color Guard to New York City in March 2007 to march in the St. Patrick's Day Parade.
The Board approved a policy change for the Code of Conduct for Students/Athletes Regarding Drugs, Alcohol, and/or Tobacco.
The Board approved a draft policy and draft letter to parents on a policy to prohibit the use of tobacco on all school premises.
The Board approved the low bid by Kerlin Bus Sales to purchase two new 66-passenger school buses and one special education bus for 2006.
The Board approved the book stores hours, textbook rental fees, and textbook adoption for 2006-07.

The Board approved the monthly claim documents as submitted.
Preston Beamer, a junior at Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School, spoke to the Board about an Eagle Scout project in which he would build a picnic shelter at the Frankton softball diamond on the property that is owed by the school corporation and leased to the Frankton Softball League. The Board approved for the shelter to be built and to help finance the project.
