Frankton-Lapel Community Schools

  • The Board approved the minutes from the June 14, 2018 school board meeting.
  • Jeff Alexander was present to speak to the Board about the school corporation sponsoring the Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School band, choir, and cheerleaders at the 2018 Frankton Heritage Days. The Board approved the $300.00 sponsorship.
  • Superintendent Bobby Fields reported on the health insurance claims for June 2018.
  • The opening school schedule was reported as follows:
    • July 30 - All school offices open
    • July 30-31 - FJSHS new student registration by appointment
    • July 31, August 1-2 - FES, LES, LMS, & LHS new student registration by appointment
    • August 6 - New Teacher Orientation
    • August 7 - Organization Day/In-service Day (meet at LHS for breakfast and introductions, work at schools for the day)
    • August 8 - Teacher Work Day
    • August 9 - First Day for K-12 Students
  • The Board approved the following schedule for the 2019 budget adoption:
    • Wednesday, August 29 - 2019 budget sent to Gateway
    • Thursday, September 13 - Regular Board Meeting. Public Hearing on 2019 Budget, 7:30 p.m.
    • Thursday, October 11 - Regular Board Meeting: Adoption of 2019 Budget, 7:30 p.m.
  • The Board approved the following cash tuition requests for 2018-19:
    • Frankton k -Sr. High School
      • Skylyn Reese - Grade 7
  • The Board approved the corporation goals for 2018-19 as presented.
  • The Board approved the food bids for bread and milk for 2018-19 and approved to purchase food and supplies through the bid process of the West Central Indiana Educational Service Center.
  • The Board approved the following fundraising request:

  • The Board approved a change to the handbook for Lapel Middle School.
  • The Board approved updated the following policies:
    • Enforcement of Child Abuse and Neglect Statute, Student School Behavior, Educational Programs, High Ability, School Service Vans, Participation in High School Graduation Ceremony, Retention of Public Records, and Logical Security.
  • The Board approved the following recommendations:
    • Frankton Elementary School
      • Laura Probst - Kindergarten Teacher
    • Lapel Middle School
      • Christy Couch - English Teacher
    • Lapel High School
      • Jeffrey Johnson - Dual Credit Biology Teacher
  • The Board approved the following resignation:
    • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School
      • Jason Smith - Chemistry/Physics Teacher, effective immediately, 9 years of service to FLCS
  • The Board approved the claim documents as submitted.
  • Mr. FieldS reported to the Board on the Preventing Preventable Deaths Training being offered to school corporation employees and put on by Crisis Training & Consulting, Inc. The Board approved for the corporation to pay the $2,500.00 training and consulting fee.
  • The Board discussed the rental of school facilities by outside organizations. The Board discussed a recent feasibility study for the school corporation.
